Suffolk University is a private institution in the centre of Boston, Massachusetts.

Suffolk was founded as a law school in 1906 and remained as such until the period from 1934 to 1937 which saw liberal arts, science and business schools created and the university acquire its current name. In 1996, it incorporated the New England School of Art & Design.

One of the best institutions in New England, Suffolk has been hailed for its student engagement and career preparation in particular. Its business and engineering programmes are among the most highly regarded, while its present-day law school is also viewed positively.

A stone’s throw from Boston Common, the university is a short walk from the Old State House, Faneuil and Boston Celtics’ basketball arena. The most famous and heavily populated city on the East Coast, Boston is where the American Revolution began, and one of the country’s oldest cities. Yet it is now fast-establishing itself as one of the most modern. The city centre has undergone considerable development in recent years, with new skyscrapers, tech investment, refurbished parks and some neighbourhoods even built from scratch, like Fan Pier. But it retains its reputation as a cultural hub, home to famous museums, iconic sports grounds, a lively theatre and music scene, and all kinds of culinary delights. As well as nine buildings in the centre of Boston, Suffolk also enjoys satellite campuses in Cape Cod, a famous Massachusetts coastal strip, and Madrid, the Spanish capital.

Alumni include Joan Vennochi, a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist who spent years at the Boston Globe, and Dan Harrington, a world champion poker player who has also played chess and backgammon at international level.
