Murray State University is a public university in Murray, Kentucky, which is highly rated among the state’s regional universities. The university was opened as a teaching college in 1923, with the first classes held in the local high school.

An extensive range of studies are available at Murray State, with 245 majors and other programmes on offer. The college prides itself on offering the programmes and facilities of a large research university with the friendliness and close student-teacher bonds of a small town college.

The six academic divisions at Murray State are the Jesse D Jones College of Science, Engineering and Technology, the Hutson School of Agriculture, the School of Nursing and Health Professions, the Arthur J Bauernfeind College of Business, the College of Education and Human Services and the College of Humanities and Fine Arts.

As well as the main campus in Murray, graduate courses are offered at locations in Paducah, Hopkinsville, Madisonville, and Henderson. Over 60 options for graduate students are taught at Murray State’s various sites.

Study abroad programmes are available in every academic field. Previous students have studied public speaking in Costa Rica, engineering in Belize and economics in Finland, to name just a few of the potential avenues for students to travel down. Several of these programmes are student exchanges, and Murray State has over 1,000 international students at any given time.

Athletics students at Murray State are known as the Racers, with the exception of the baseball team, the Thoroughbreds. The college offers the unusual sport of bass fishing, and the team has brought home several titles.
