Located in the picturesque surroundings of Harrogate, Tennessee, Lincoln Memorial Institution is a four year institution focusing on the liberal arts and undergraduate studies. The university was founded in 1897 and is in itself a memorial to the late American president Abraham Lincoln, chartered on what would have been his 88th birthday.

As well as the Harrogate Campus LMU runs the renowned Duncan Law school in the city of Knoxville, Tennessee. The school offers a range of courses up to a full-time, three year programme, balanced with internships and pro bono work.

Athletics teams at LMU are known as the Railsplitters, a reference to Lincoln’s humble early profession. Men’s teams compete in ten sports and women’s in eleven, as well as the spirit squads of cheerleading and dance. Since opening in 1991, the Tex Arena has become known as one of the prime basketball arenas in the NCAA Division II in which LMU competes, and can seat over 5000 spectators.

Opened in 2007, the DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine stands on the LMU campus against the backdrop of the stunning Cumberland Gap mountains. Students can learn about the health care needs of the community while using the latest technology, and the college offers both a doctorate and a master’s course.

The Abraham Lincoln library on campus is home to extensive collections on the man’s life and the Civil War Era. As well as over 30,000 books, exhibits include the tea set used by Lincoln and Mary Todd at their Springfield family home, and the cane Lincoln was using on the night of his assassination at Ford’s Theatre.
